Ovarian cancer with peritoneal spread - family member recently diagnosed and terrified of the unknown. Does anyone have any positive experiences?

Hello, a family member has had a recent diagnosis of ovarian cancer with peritoneal spread. Surgery was offered but with wanting to reduce a stoma they have decided to have chemo then a debulking surgery then more chemo. They are absolutely terrified of the unknown and what life will look like. Gps put symptoms down to anxiety for months which also impacted mental health very negatively and unfortunately left them even more scared frightened and unheard!

if there is anyone who could share some positive experiences or even someone who can relate to how they may be feeling i would appreciate being able to pass it all on as they dont have the social media resources.

  • Hello Ollie1919,

I am sorry to hear your family member has had a recent diagnosis of ovarian cancer with peritoneal spread. It's terrible that they thought symptoms were down to anxiety for months and that as a result they felt frightened and unheard. I hope that treatment will go well and it's completely understandable that they are terrified of the unknown and what life will look like.

I hope that you will hear from others who have had similar experiences or who can relate to how your family member is feeling - it helps to talk to others who are or have been in a similar boat.

We're thinking of you during this difficult time and if you have any questions about the treatment or the diagnosis, don't hesitate to get in touch with our nurses on this free number 0808 800 4040 Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
