Hi I was diagnosed with tongue cancer on 28th July. I have had an MRI of my neck and a CT of my chest and get my results on Monday 11th. I know surgery is on the cards and skin graft from my arm. Anyone else dealing with this?
Hi, I was diagnosed with tongue cancer end of August so possibly a month behind you in mu treatment. I’ve had half my tongue removed and replaced with radial forearm flap, plus all lymph nodes on lhs of mu neck. I got out of hospital a week ago. I also have to have radiotherapy because the tumour was stage 4. Am worried about all the side effects as I am just getting back to eating. How is yours going?
Hi sorry fur delay I couldn’t log in! I’m luckier than you I only had a partial glossectomy and neck dissection done. No flap was needed and my lymph nodes and margins were clear so no radiotherapy or chemo needed. I was stage 1 . I’m being monitored every 2 months for now. I’m eating well just get very tired easily but it’s only been 4.5 weeks. I hope you get on ok with the radiotherapy it does sound unpleasant I must say I feel very lucky that I don’t need it. Let me know how it goes though
Thank you for your reply. I’m happy for you that it’s only stage 1. I ignored mine too long, obviously not realising it was cancer. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
You mustn’t blame yourself. It’s not likely to be the first thing you think of. Try and stay positive. Head and neck cancers have a high percentage cure rate.,why don’t you look at the MacMillan website. Their chat groups are great
