Very Frightened: I have just been diagnosed with invasive carcinoma

Hi after what seems a life time of being poorly i have finally got some answers but its the answers no body wants to hear,

5 years ago as 60 yrs young man i was a 14 stone 5ft 4" thick set strong as an ox bloke, but i had completely lost my appetite and so went to see my doctor & told him of my concerns to which his jovial reply was "when it starts to show an effect then come back at see me"

So having faith in my doctor i left it and carried on - its not easy eating food when your body tells you your not hungry but some how i managed the situation and my weight remained stable. Move on 3 years & suddenly i developed chronic diarrhea which gradually become worse - thru diet and off the shelf meds helped me manage the situation but i needed professional help & went back to the same doctor who arranged for investigations to be carried out and the conclusion was ibs. Time moves on & in October 24 i wasn't happy and the diarrhea became worse and severe stomach cramps came into the mix plus now i am loosing weight - referred in October 24 but not seen seen until July 25 lost 3 stone plus weak as kitten. Well once i was on their radar everything moved so very fast - CT scan Colonoscopy + gastro  results came back to day and i have  whats called an Invasive Carcinoma - no need to say which part of the body its located &  have major surgery booked in 10 days . Well i know doctors are only human & they dont have a crystal ball but sometime it would be great if they just took the time and listened Please

  • Hi Joypop,

Poor you having had to wait so long for answers and I am so sorry that those answers were not what you wanted to hear. You did the right thing in going to the doctor's when you noticed that something wasn't quite right and you had lost your appetite but I am so sorry to hear that you were not taken seriously and that 3 years later, you had to go back and see the same doctor when you were experiencing chronic diarrhoea and you were then told you had IBS. It sounds like  you finally had the tests you needed after things deteriorated but I am so sorry you were eventually diagnosed with invasive carcinoma.

Finally things seem to be moving fast but you must be incredibly frustrated that it took so long especially as you went to see a doctor all these years ago when you first noticed something was a bit off. At least it's only a matter of days now before you have your surgery and I hope that it will all go well. You have come to the right place to meet others who are or have been in a similar place and I will let them come and say hello and share their story with you.

It can be a lot to take in when you have been given a diagnosis and if you have any questions, our nurse helpline is only a free phone call away on 0808 800 4040 - you can call them Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
