Worried about chemo side effects and possible hair loss. Can someone help me through this?

Hi

I have now reached the chemo stage after my mastectomy.

I am due to start 16 weeks of  chemo every two weeks  very soon.

I am very anxious and upset about hair loss and the brutal side effects they tell you about!

Can anyone who has been through this help me please

  • Hi,I bought a lot.of mine online ,from amazon and they were fine. My head is quite small /med ,and all fitted well. The beanie type hats, turbins style hats, were great, i bought a few scarf type hats as well. A normal headscarf can be worn,if your worried about the fit,and you could fasten it with those type of clips you can buy on shein, that can be worn on scarfs or on clothes to give that scrunched tie side look .They are vety cheap to buy as well. What I did was orderd one of each style ,and if I liked it,is order more in the style I liked and in different colours.  Im not sure ,but you may be able to send bsck the ones you don't like ,and get refunded. I myself can't be bothered to return stuff ,I just give stuff away or give to charity shops . Hope yoi find some lovely headgear,im sure you will, they do.have a lot of styles online, I used to type in chemo hats and scarfs for csncer patients...loads came up . Good luck and hope you find what yoir looking for. Xx

  • Me again lol.oh and I forgot to say they also sell caps ,wirhma pony tail that comes out of the bsck .A lady.in the chemo unit wore these and she looked great in them . Maybe good for this heat, as wigs do make yoir head veryu hot in this heat. I never bought one ,as I had bought three wigs and loads of headwear.  Xxx

  • Thank you so much for your reply. I will do as you suggested and order a few different ones. Then if ok stock up

    Thank you x

  • I have bought a wig.but only intend to wear it when going out for the evening as I know they can be hot

    Thank you x

  • I think its the best way,it worked for me Hope you've enjoyed today's nice weather.  Speak soon xxx

  • Yes enjoying some time with my husband just chilling. As I start chemo on Tuesday and have no idea how it will affect me.

Hope you have had a lovely Sunday. Thank you for your help.

    Jan xx

  • Your so welcome, that's why I'm still on this chat platform five years on from my opp, chemotherapy, radiotherapy im still here because I found it a wonderfull help to me,so its nice to be here to fo  e same if I can. Glad you are having a relaxing Sunday with your husband ,stay positive about Tuesday, remember it really isnt as bad as your imagining Jan,but your bound to be apprehensive and anxio ,I know I was,and your body is unique, just as everyone's is ,we all react differently to different medications, treatments. But im hoping g you will be telling me soon that I was right ,first one.wa OK. Obviously it gets a little more tiring as each chemotherapy goes on,and losing the hair is awfull when it first starts to fall out,I think that's when it hit me....ive got cancer,I obviously kne ,but it felt.like I was.in a dream up untill thst point. But you've got this, your first chemotherapy will come and go quickly, and you're be kicking cancer to the kerb. I will be thinking of you on  esday Jan,sending you much love and positivity  and a few virtual hugs    .Do let me know how it goes on Tuesday .xxx

  • Oh I can't thank you enough for your support it really helps. Knowing nyou have been there and done this and come out the other side gives me a bit more confidence.

I will let you know how I get on.
