Young age diagnosis

Hi, I’m 27 years old I was diagnosed with essential thrombocytopemia I was diagnosed at the age of 23 when I found out I was pregnant. When I found this out the doctor at the hospital told I had it 5 years prior but my gp didn’t pick up on it which wasn’t helpful, over the last 3 years I’ve been struggling coming to terms with it. I just want someone who I can talk to and understand my worries

  • Hello Beanie98

I'm sorry to hear that you were diagnosed with essential thrombocytopenia 4 years ago. It's understandable that you may have found it difficult coming to terms with this diagnosis and how it has impacted your life over the last few years.

We have a few members who have previously posted about living with ET in the Cancer Chat forum. You can read through some of their posts by using the forum search function to look for the terms "ET" or "essential thrombocytopenia".

I also wanted to let you know about two other organisations that specifically offer support to young people living with cancer. Blood Cancer UK have information on their website specifically for young adults and Shine Cancer Support offer support to people in their 20s, 30s and 40s who are living with cancer.

If you'd like to talk with one of our nurses about your concerns, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can.

I hope that you can connect with others who understand what it's like to be living with ET in your 20s and can offer you some reassurance.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
