Sister diagnosed with CUP

My sister has been diagnosed with CUP, as a family we are devastated and then finding out there is no cure it’s just all very overwhelming, don’t know what to do

  • Hello TrishB1965 and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am so sorry to hear about your sister's diagnosis - receiving a diagnosis of Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) can be unsettling as you are still not clear as to what the primary cancer may have been and it can all be a bit overwhelming for you as family. Has your sister been offered any treatment? It's hard to know what to do in a situation like this; it's normal to feel a little powerless but all you can do really is show your love and support to your sister and I am sure you can trust your instinct for that as you know your sister best and how to be there for her during this difficult time. You will also find information on our website for Family, friends, and carers where you will find tips on how to best support someone with cancer but also how to make sure you take care of yourself and your own wellbeing if someone you love has cancer.

I hope that you get more answers soon and that you will hear from other members of our community who have also been diagnosed with CUP or who are in the same position as you having just found out a loved one has cancer.

Best wishes to you and your sister,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
