Bladder Cancer - advice please

Less than 24 hours ago my 77 very fit and healthy dad was diagnosed with aggressive bladder cancer which hasnt spread to any other part of his body but has penetrated the 2nd bladder wall. Its taken over 8 weeks from him first being seen to get the results yesterday and whilst the whole handling of his diagnosis has been appalling my focus needs to be on supporting him not getting angry at the system.
My question to anyone who has been through this or has cared for someone - they are currently saying that due to his age they are not going to treat him - im appalled by this, hes never been in hospital before in his whole life, hes fit and it hasnt spread!
The authorities have agreed to my request of another face to face meeting just wondering has anyone been through anything similar?

ps I know im not a medical professional however I really feel I owe it to my dad to challenge this.

  • Hi Warriorjay23,

I am so sorry your dad has had such a negative experience in the lead up to his bladder cancer diagnosis - 8 weeks is a long time really to get definite results and it must have been such a nerve racking time for you all. You are right though to shift your focus on supporting him and ensuring that from now on everything goes as well as possible for him without any other blips or delays.

I can imagine it is so frustrating for you to be told that they are not going to treat him when he is fit and healthy - you did well to request another face to face meeting and it will be an opportunity to put your points across and I hope that you get somewhere. You are also always entitled to seek a second opinion and you will find more information on our website on getting a second opinion

I hope that the meeting is helpful and that they will be able to offer your dad some treatment. We are keeping everything crossed for you. Do keep us updated if you get a chance on how things develop. I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have experienced something similar before and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

    Best wishes,
