Hello hirdie
I'm sorry to hear that you've been diagnosed with DCIS and that you're now waiting for a mastectomy. It's understandable that this is an anxious time for you.
We know that for many people the wait for results can be really hard. It's natural to think about all outcomes and to be worried that there may be further news you don't want to hear. However, try to keep focused on what you do know. At this time it's really positive to hear that the specialists don't feel that you have an invasive breast cancer. And we know that after mastectomy DCIS almost never comes back. Keeping hold of the fact that you do know can help when you feel particularly stressed.
Are you planning to have a reconstruction? Or have you chosen not to follow that pathway? Either way, hopefully the surgery and recovery will be straightforward and within a few weeks of the operation, the team will have all the information they need to give you further reassurance.
If it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses at any time you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.
I do hope things go smoothly for you hirdie. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.
Best wishes,
Jenn
