Kidney Cancer - Help

My partner has one kidney and has been told a mass in his kidney needs treatment.  Radiation therapy is being arranged starting in June.

He is not talking much about it as is scared but wants to go to New York on holiday for a week next week.  He can’t get insurance for it but won’t discuss or debate it with me  I want to postpone but if I mention it - he lashes out at me. He is very frightened.

i am at my wits end as it’s like living on a volcano.  Am I mad for suggesting that the US is not ideal - what happens if he gets ill.  He just won’t talk about it just goes on about how much it cost.  Am sure BA would move the flight.

has anyone else been in this situation.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, frinty

It sounds like an incredibly difficult situation, and I’m so sorry to hear how much you’re holding right now. It’s understandable to feel concerned, especially when someone you care about is frightened but not able to speak openly.

Many here will recognise the strain that comes when a loved one is facing something serious but avoids discussion. You’re doing your best in a very complex moment, and it’s okay to reach out for support too.

If it would help to speak things through, our nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. They’re very kind and always happy to listen.

You’re not alone, and I hope this community can offer you some comfort.

    Best wishes,
