82 year old dad diagnosed with lung cancer after living for 6 years with metastatic prostate cancer

Hi all as the title says, I'm here for my dad who today was diagnosed with lung cancer following a CT scan.  We don't know what type and whether it's primary lung or metastatic prostate cancer.  Can anyone tell me if it's primary lung cancer what the treatment plan is likely to be please, given his age and other issues.  Thanks

  • Hello Florida07

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's recent diagnosis of lung cancer. It's understandable that this may be a worrying time for you both and natural that you have questions about what treatment options may be available to your Dad.

As you've already mentioned that the team don't know as yet if this is primary lung cancer or metastatic prostate cancer, it's difficult to answer your question with any certainty. We do have information about treatment for lung cancer on our website, as well as information about treatment for metastatic prostate cancer. It's important to remember that even after a clear diagnosis is made, there will be many factors that will influence the treatment options that may be available to your Dad, such as general health.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for some clarity, but if it would help to chat things through with one of our nurses in the meantime, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm (excluding bank holidays).

Do keep in touch let us know how your Dad gets on. We're here for you.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for coming back to me.  I have just put a similar question in ask the nurses.  I suppose until we know more I can't really do anything and don't know what treatment plan to look for or questions to ask.  I'm sure I'll be back soon
