Hi, I’m really sorry to hear that you received this news whilst on holiday.

I have been recently diagnosed with DCIS in both breasts. One is low and the other intermediate. I have recently undergone a bilateral lumpectomy. They discovered that the margins are wider in one breast than previously thought, and uncertain about the other. I am due further surgery in May to remove more breast tissue. 

Although it is not something that they would not necessarily prescribe for my case; they normally opt for breast conservation but the surgeon did say at our last consultation that it would be my choice, I am reflecting on the pros and cons of complete breast removal.

I will be speaking to consultant when we get home in person so hopefully I’ll feel more informed x I suppose until I know the extent of it I can’t think too far ahead x I wish you well for may and you too will make the right choice for yourself 

Tuckertom, any developments you can share? I just attended breast clinic, they said there is an area of concern with calcification. DCIS was mentioned as a possibility but also that they just dnt know with me and waiting on biopsy and MRI. Did they explain why it was intermediate to high, is it due to the size and how long do you think you had the lump? I thought mine was just breast tissue for a long time so I'm scared that I've let it go on too long 

Hi Shelley739, I have now had a face to face consultation regarding results of biopsy.. I am booked in to have breast conservation surgery and lymph node removal in 10 days time . The aim of ehich is to remove the mass (in my case 1-2cm )remove calcifications and some area of micro invasions(abnormal cells less than 1mm)they will take a margin of healthy tissue to hopefully ensure all cancerous tissue is removed . They have told me they will move breast tissue around to help with asymmetry. With regard to grading I understand it’s the stage of abnormal cells ,higher grade potentially growing faster. I know my breasts were clear 1 year ago as I had a mammogram and ultrasound because ironically I thought I felt a lump in my other breast ,but all was clear on both breast sat that time . What I would say is everyone is different and try not to Google too much and end up getting in a panic ! Which is exactly what i did. When you have results (hopefully good) you will be Informed and a plan of action will be made . I felt much better once I knew exactly what was going to happen .i wish you well , try not to imagine the worst scenario until you know the facts . I hope this helps x

Thank you for taking time to reply. Google is definitely putting my head away and I should stop with that. I have a feeling I'm going to need something removed at best, I would be interested to hear how you get on with your breast conservation surgery. Take care
