Awaiting biopsy results for melanoma

How long do you usually wait ? I’m told it is probably stage one from Dermatoscopic .

  • Hello Elsabug

I'm sorry to hear that you're currently waiting for biopsy results. We know that for many people this can be a very worrying time.

From the posts that I've read here on the forum, the length of time it can take to receive biopsy results for a possible melanoma really does vary.

Did the hospital give you any idea when you may here some news? Do give them a call if that time frame has passed or if you've not been given a time frame. Sometimes just knowing that things are still in process or that the results are perhaps with the consultant can help to relieve some of the concerns.

Hopefully you will have some news soon. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi and thanks Jenn for the reply. I was told at least 6 - 8 weeks, even thought the dermatologist consultant who initially saw it in January was confident it was a melanoma, likely stage one. It just feels like an inordinately long time to wait for histology, already knowing that it’s malignant. I’m sort of reading that even 1A can possibly spread, so feeling pretty desolate.

    thanks for your kind wishes.
