Help me please

My daughter has been diagnosed with bowel cancer. Yesterday we were told there is something in the liver. They are very tiny but lots of them. The bowel cancer is operable and they are talking about chemo for the liver . Any chat would help me as I am going mental

  • Hello Jop46

I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's diagnosis. It's undoubtedly a difficult time for you all and natural that you will have concerns.

It's good to hear that the specialists have already talked through a treatment plan and hopefully, your daughter won't have to wait too long to start.

We know that for many people hearing that a loved one has cancer is hard. It can often help to talk with someone and I wonder if you might find it helpful to chat things through with one of our nurses. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

In the meantime, try to take things a day at a time and not look too far ahead.

Keep in touch and let us know how you're' both managing. We're here for you.

Sending you both my best wishes,

  • Hello Jop46,

Just picked up on your post and can understand your anxiety at such a worrying time, its really hard to find a calm place to rest your mind  for any kind of relief.l went through something very similar ten years ago now, so l can appreciate the treatment journey your daughter is about to travel.

The good news, and yes you have to look for all you can find, is that a treatment plan is in place, your daughter will be monitored closely through every step of her journey, her MDT team will bring a broad range of experience and skills to bear in supporting her through her treatment

Don't lose sight of the fact that treatments have improved over the years and what is not possible at the outset could change following treatment.

Also stay positive and try not to overstress, its a long haul so you need to pace your emotions if possible,

    Best wishes,

    David
