Oesophageal Cancer

Hi, my husband was diagnosed end of January with Stage 3. He's had gastroscopy, CT scan, pet scan and heart scan. Waiting for lung test and laparoscopy. Pet scan picked up something in the bowel which he had a colonoscopy for and that turned out to be cancer too. Pet scan also picked up the liver. Had to have MRI for that. Results from that are on monday.24 February. Absolutely dreading it. If it's cancer then it will be a case of management not cure.

  • Hello  Denix,

My goodness!   What a very difficult time you are having. with all this bad news .... and poor hubby with going through all those tests.  The waiting for results is especially hard isn't it ?

You can be assured that the doctors are doing all they can to get a complete picture of the situation  , and tomorrow you'll find out what they think is best for your husband.   Will you be going to the appointment with him ? Be brave....and take notes or record on your phone ..

I will be keeping you in my prayers

    Zillah......currently  managing hubby's care .

Thank you. It is a struggle and the waiting is torture. It is a telephone call tomorrow. Don't know what time though. We are hoping for an early call then we are not sat wondering. Yes I am off work for tomorrow. At least tomorrow we can hopefully start to make plans. So far everyone has been brilliant and very honest and informative.

I hope your husband is managing ok. It must be hard for you.

    Best wishes

    Denise

It wasn't good news. It's in the liver so no operation. Appointment with oncology 18th march.

I'm so saddened to hear that Denix . Even when you're half expecting it as we were  it stuns you doesn't it ?

It's like the world as you know it has stopped turning. Your list of your man's cancers touched a nerve with me...because it was so rotten for him to get all that at the same time  ,and it reminded me of our experience a bit .

My hubby had his first 2 cancers in 2008,oral , a 16hr surgery dealt with that...and left him with no teeth.  .

Then another cancer(bladder) in '23 which a 7 hour surgery sorted by giving him a stoma, which he hates, and 2 bouts of sepsis....then in Dec 24 he was diagnosed with tongue, tonsil and jaw cancer...inoperable . He decided against palliative radiotherapy (he's 76 )and is under hospice care at home   . It's not easy,   but so far we're coping.

You have a bit of time before the oncology appointment to get your heads around this. Please keep in touch at anytime .

    Oh Zilla

I'm so sorry that you've been through so much. The hospice care nurses are amazing. I'm sure you are giving your husband the best care he could wish for.

Likewise, anytime you wish to chat, please message.
