Newly diagnosed lung cancer

My father in law is 79, was admitted to hospital with a collapsed lung and fluid on his lung. He was then diagnosed with lung cancer which has spread up to his shoulder and into his neck. He was told to enjoy time with family and has approx 1-2 months. He is being released from hospital and my mother in law keeps telling us he is fine and will get better and we are never there when the doctors come round. Is 1-2 months a likely timeline?

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Edinburgh although I'm really sorry to hear about your father in law and the prognosis he has been given.

This must be such a difficult time for you all but our members, many of which have gone through this with their loved ones, are here for you Edinburgh and hopefully it won't be long until some of them stop by to offer their support and advice.

Unfortunately no-one here can comment on your father in law's timeline, only his medical team can, but if you would like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. and they'll do all they can to help.

We're thinking of you Edinburgh and sending all our support to you and your family at this very challenging time.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
