SABR radiotherapy refused

My partner has been diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer. He was supposed to be having 5 sessions of SABR radiotherapy but couldn't keep still on the CT planning scan, so now he's been told he can't gave the treatment. He has a brain injury and limited understanding and I refuse to believe that they cannot make adaptations so they can treat him. Its surely unethical not to try? He has had a head mask made bur needs his arms to stay still. Surely they can make him a mould to secure his arms? I cant get my head round the fact they won't treat him. (He's not strong enough for chemo or an operation)

  • Hello Chirpycharlie

I'm sorry to hear about your partner's diagnosis and the situation that you both find yourselves in. It sounds like it's a difficult time for you both and I can understand your frustration and concerns about being told that radiotherapy is no longer an option for him.

I wonder if you might find it helpful to talk with one of our nurses for some advice and support? I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

If you feel that you're unable to talk with your partner's specialists then you could also contact the hospital PALS team. It's part of their role to help resolve concerns or problems when you're using the NHS.

I hope that you're able to get some clarity on your questions and that the specialists can offer you and your partner some reassurance.

    Best wishes,
