Bcc on forehead, worried about facial scarring after surgery

I'm due to have plastic surgery to remove the bcc on my forehead.   I've been told I may need a skin graft or have more than one cut to enable the skin to be closed and there will be a lot of stitches.  I'm worried about how I am going to look.  My family just say I should be pleased the  cancer will be removed,  they don't understand why I'm upset about how it will look.  I'm 70 and have thinning hair so won't be able to create a full fringe to hide the area.  I'm upset with myself at feeling like this, I know this isn't life threatening, I just wish I had someone who understand how I feel.

  • Hi, have just seen this post, obviously this has already passed. How did it go ? I saw a dermatologist today and was told I need to have to BCC removed,  both on my forehead. They've booked my surgeries a week apart. I am feeling very anxious about how scars on my face will look. I have had a BCC on my chest and shoulder removed so am not naive that they aren't tiny scars.. just frustrating that they are both on my face. I am grateful that they are treatable,  I am just really anxious about the outcome.

Sorry to hear you have to go through more surgery especially on your face. If you dont require a skin graft a good surgeon can leave quite a neat line which will fade over time. You can use makeup to cover the scar. Ckeck out https://www.changingfaces.org.uk/

Wearing a hat whenever you are outside is essential to protect the scars and help prevent further BCC or SCC. 50 SPF on face everday avoid midday sun. Ive got lots of scars on my face nose scalp which I do feel self concious about. Hope your surgery goes well and you recover quickly.
