I am 66 with invasive ductal carcinoma without DC15 B56 grade 2

ER positive

PR positive

HER2 negative.

Mt right breast is clear.

I have opted for a single mastectomy followed by radiotherapy. I am so hoping this will be enough. I am hoping my operation will be mid Feb.

Am I right in feeling fairly confident if I can just get through the next few weeks?

  • Hi Kayluc,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Unfortunately, there are never any guarantees with cancer, but provided that your surgeon can remove all of the cancerous tissue, a mastectomy does seem to be the best way forward. The tissue removed during surgery, will be sent for analysis, to ensure that the remaining tissue is clear. If it isn't, then the surgeon will usually take a little more away. It usually takes about 2 weeks to get these results back and, I'm afraid that this is another anxious wait.

You will find that the more positive you can be about the outcome, the better you will cope with any treatment. Has there been any mention of chemo or radiation after your operation? I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer within a year of each other. I had a lumpectomy first time around and a double mastectomy for the second bout.  You will find that surgery is very straightforward. Are you planning any reconstruction following the procedure? Unfortunately, I was unable to have reconstruction, due to previous non-cancer related surgery, but I manage well with an assortment of prostheses, for different activities.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you and I am happy to answer any questions which you may have.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
