Lymph Node Removal

Hi Everyone,

I have recently been diagnosed with Breast Cancer and will be having a mastectomy in January.

It has been confirmed by a biopsy that 2 of my lymph nodes have also tested positive.

I now have the choice of having the two lymph nodes and a few others removed or having all of them removed.

Just wondering if anyone has any stories that could help me make this decision, I feel like I'm having to decide between potentially getting Lymphdema if i remove them all or Cancer potentially returning if I leave some remaining.

Thanks for reading and sending lots of positive vibes and best wishes to everyone on this journey

  • Hi, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October. I had a lumpectomy done on the 29th November.

A previous scan showed no traces of cancer cells. Unfortunately when I got my results 3 out of the 4 lymph nodes had cancer cells. I am getting my second surgery on the 9th January to remove all my remaining lymph nodes.

Please do your exercises that you will be given they make a real difference to your recovery.

Good luck with your operation and on your journey x

  • Thank you so much for your reply.

My surgery is also on 9th January.

I think my worry is that it will spread to the other lymph nodes and so I should just have them all removed to stop that worry.

Did they speak to you about Lymphdemea? Is that what your exercises were for?

I would happily do exercises to reduce the risk and have the comfort of knowing there are no lymph nodes left.

The best of luck to you with your surgery and your journey

  • Hi cheekymonkey123

Yes the exercises are to help with lymphedema and also to get my arm above my head as I'm getting radiotherapy.

My operation has been brought forward to 2/1/25.

  • Wow, that's great your operation has been brought forward  It's so much better not having to wait fir everything.

I have been told I will be having radiotherapy too so I will definitely keep onto of my exercises

Good luck with your op and thanks again for your response
