Early stage and awaiting a diagnosis on other cells

Hi All, First time posting.
I was diagnosed today with Inductal Carcinoma In Situ and have had another mammogram and marker placed in another part of the same breast to test some other cells too.

have two children 7 and 12 and I’m scared! I know it’s early stage and good to find it so early and I’ll need an op in 4 weeks or so but first I need to know the results for the second set of cells on 13 Jan.. just feel very up in the air as it’s back to not knowing again.

They also said that my hormones are making it grow.. I’m 50 and not going through the menopause yet so may have to have hormone therapy to block oestrogen. A lot of info to take in.

Hope everyone else is okay and hanging in there especially at this time of year.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat N1ck although I'm sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with inductal carcinoma in situ.

As you say, it's good it's been caught early but the anxious wait you now have to find out the results from your other tests must be very tough.

A lot of our members within our community know exactly what it's like to be in this position, so you are not alone N1ck, and I'm sure it won't be long until some of them stop by to offer you their support and advice.

If you'd like to discuss your diagnosis and/or situation further with one of our cancer nurses, they are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday (except bank holidays) between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

I hope some of the tips we have on how to cope with waiting for news will help you as well.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
