A long process

I went to my GP in October 2022 with dysuria. Pain in my genitals. Digital exam was fine. Smooth and non suspicious. Next step was a cystoscopy which revealed a red patch in bladder. On December 8 last year I had a bladder biopsy which found nothing sinister but a suggestion of intersistial cystitis. Things have dragged one and with pain in anus particularly bad bending I had an MRI scan for pudendal neuralgia which proved inconclusive. In two years and two months my symptoms haven't really changed. Urinate a lot day and night but remarkably the pain in perineum is eased by urinating for a while. Now after my psa level went from 6.1 t0 6.8 in a year they are sending me for a prostate MRI on New Years Day. I should add I am 78. The pain gets worse sitting and worse over a day. Hot baths ease it.Anyone any thoughts.

  • Hello Ribblesdale

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health issues over the last two years. Living with chronic pain can be difficult, often more so when you've been unable to get answers regarding the cause of these issues.

It's good to hear that you will be having some further investigations next week. Hopefully the MRI results will give the doctors the information they need to make a firm diagnosis and set you on the path to improving things for you.

Our team of nurses are now out of the office for the festive break but if you'd like to talk with them they will be back from 9am on Friday morning on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you have some answers soon Ribblesdale. Do keep let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi there. Had my mri scan on New Years Day and was told yesterday I need a biopsy in next two weeks. A lesion in the peripheral zone but confined to prostate.

My symptoms have been the same for two years and I'd hate to think it's been cancer all the time.

Or to tackle the cancer. Get a good result and then to find I still have the same symptoms which have badly affected quality of life.
