  • Hello Stumpy71 and welcome to Cancer Chat,

It's ok if you don't have any questions at this point, as they might come up in conversation. The important thing is that you feel informed and clear on what us going to happen. If you'd like to read more about proton bean therapy treatment, you can on our website. We also have a free cancer nurse helpline available if you'd like to ask a question to one of the team. You can call 0808 800 4040 and lines are open 9 to 5 Monday to Friday.

I hope this helps and that the video call at the end of the month goes ok,

  • Hi Paul,

I am not an ocular melanoma patient, mine being melanoma of the skin (superficial spreading). However, I suggest you check out Ocumel UK at https://omuk.org/ They have lots of support & should be able to answer any questions you have.

    Good luck,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)

  • Hi Paul,

How are you getting on and most importantly how are you feeling?

My story is a bit like yours, I had to go to Hospital where I was told I had a tumour in my right eye. This was at the beginning of December. A week later I went in to have markers sewn around the tumour. I now have to wait until February for my mask to be made then proton beam radiotherapy. On the last day I am having a biopsy.

When they told me, my reply was "well it is what it is" but tonight I have sat here sobbing. I feel exhausted and alone, even though I have family.

I've still been going into work with the hope it would take my mind off things but not sure that's quite working.

  • Hi Paul,

    Sorry to hear your diagnosis.

l was diagnosed yesterday in a nevus clinic in Moorfields. Yet to see oncology to see what my options are, hopefully there are some. Yet to have MRI to see if I'm clear everywhere else, very scared.

I've read info on both procedures but it's only what Google says. It would be useful if you were able to share your experiences so far.

    Thank you.
