Skin cancer

Good evening

I have had a biopsy and it has come back as I have basal cancer in my eye lid, I have waited for a few weeks for a appointment and have the first appointment with dermatology tomorrow but I’m not sure what to expect? Anyone had any experience with this please

  • Hi Natfern and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with basal cancer on your eyelid, and that no-one was able to get back to you before you had your dermatology appointment yesterday, but I hope it went well and you now have a clearer picture of what lies ahead.

Hopefully some of our members who have had this type of cancer will be along soon to offer their support and advice, but if there is anything that was mentioned at your appointment that you'd like to discuss further with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease about your diagnosis.

Do keep posting if you find it helps Natfern and remember, you are not alone.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Hi there Nat fern.

I too, had a basal cell on my collar bone area, a few years ago and had it removed in my dermatology clinic. I have also had to deal with Lentigo maligna, near my left eye. I had an excision about  3 and a half years ago, wirh a skin graft carried out. It came back 2 years later, and in Feb this year, I had further excisional surgery.

At the moment, I seem to be doing okay.. I get checked every 3/4 months. I may have to have some further preventative surgery in the future, to try and prevent the Lentigo Maligna from coming back in my face.

It feels scary at times. I dont know a lot about skin and skin comditions and was never a person who lay on beaches in the hot sun, so it came as a big shock to me, to have skin issues.

Make sure you ask questions. Write them down on some paper and take them in with you even, as your mind can go blank, at times.

I have found most of the staff that Ive come across in the Dermatology and Plastic surgery departments, are very nice and caring and have looked after me well.
