Recently diagnosed with breast cancer

I recently had a call back from my recent mammogram, which unfortunately following biopsy has been diagnosed as breast cancer caused through hormone estrogen!  Now awaiting treatment planning meeting following an MRI scan which I had at the weekend.

is there anyone out there who has also been diagnosed recently, just for a shout out and possibly work together through this x

  • They will probably book you in at your appointment on the 27th, fingers crossed for you ️ xx

  • Oh I hope so    Thank you x

  • Hi Mummymartin, I think you might have had your surgery by now? If so, I hope your recovery is going well.

I had a mastectomy and lymph node removal without reconstruction. I wore a button up top (pyjama top) on day of surgery but have been in normal clothes since then. For the first 2 or 3 days I put on my usual scoop neck and v neck tops, sometimes pulling them up over my hips. I’ve also been wearing long sleeved tshirts. I stuck with cardigans rather than jumpers for a few days but am now back in jumpers and sweatshirts. Yesterday (week and one day post op) I went without my softie from the hospital for the first time. Went out for a walk in a crop top style sports bra and it went really well - quite compressing but with even distribution of pressure. It was a bit tricky to get off. I wore post surgery bras for 3-4 days after the op until the bruising they were giving me over swelling got too painful. I then swapped to the smooth Sloggis I normally wear - put the softie into the pocket they have for removable padding.

  • Thank you for replying. My op was on Tuesday and I can home Tuesday night. Spent all night and yesterday being sick but I am upright at today and have eaten and had tea. Very tired. I am looking forward to getting the orange surgical wipe off my body and the purple arrow dictating which side to operate.

  • Jolamine are you on fosamax I am supposed to take itvwas I now have osteoporosis but am very reluctant to take it

  • I think I saw someone suggesting using hand sanitizer to remove the pen marks, that worked for me. Sorry to hear you were sick. I discussed that with the anaesthetist as I had been sick after general anaesthetic previously. She gave me something to reduce the risk - I think she said from about 30% to 3%. I still vomited once at home on the first evening but thankfully felt immediately well again afterwards.

Glad you have had your op! Sorry you have been unwell with sickness! I’m have my op on 12th, but I have now tested positive for mrsa as my op pres *** and waiting AB’s.   Has anyone else had this issue x

  • Hi Kaz! I also just got my breast cancer diagnosis and treatment planning appointment this morning. My tests and appointments is a bit different due to delays in results, so I already had an MRI scan before today. Mine is also estrogen positive.

I remember they mentioned treatment plans differ depending on a lot of factors, but personally having the diagnosis confirmed and with steps of the treatment starting to take shape brings a certain sense of relief. The uncertain waiting period was definitely worse. I am an overthinker so it was really bad lol

I will definitely be on here regularly as we go through our treatments and recovery. Keep in touch!

  • Hi Mummymartin,

I am glad that your operation is now behind you, but sorry to hear  that you have been so sick following the anaesthetic. I used surgical spirit to remove the arrow marks.

I hope that you have a speedy recovery.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. Remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,
