Newly diagnosed with Kidney cancer and wondering if paying for a private scan will help reduce my wait time to get scheduled for an op?
Newly diagnosed with Kidney cancer and wondering if paying for a private scan will help reduce my wait time to get scheduled for an op?
Hi I had an ultrasound scan Monday and was told yesterday that I have a lump on my right kidney and an enlarged liver and are now sending me for an MRI urgent referral and kidney specialists and keep sending me MacMillan cancer information. I'm confused if I have cancer or not but am basically in a similar situation to yourself. How did you get diagnosed? And was it by ultrasound? Much love Laura X
Hi Laura
Re: being sent Macmillan information before actually bring diagnosed with cancer, I think sometimes this can happen because we are on a "suspected cancer pathway", but it sure as hell does nothing for the nerves! I had surgery at the beginning of August to remove a tumour from my liver, I have been waiting since then to find out if it was benign or malignant, after 4 weeks I received a letter from Macmillan inviting me on a 'virtual support group meeting for newly diagnosed cancer patients'. I rang my specialist nurse upset asking how Macmillan know that I have got cancer when no one has had the decency to break the news to me? She said that they couldnt possibly know, as the hospital hadnt even received the results back from the lab yet.
So dont go thinking the worst, can easily be an admin error.
Good luck with the rest of your investigations and I hope it turns out to be harmless.
Annie
Thankyou Annie for your reply I got told yesterday that I do have cancer by a professor of urology and cancer. I have to go for an MRI with dye next Wednesday and also waiting for another appointment to have a camera inserted into my bladder. I have a cancerous tumor on my right kidney and atm I'm a bit in shock. I also have an enlarged liver and way too many red blood cells. Sorry I replied so late I have just been so unwell and very anxious. I hope you are doing ok X
Oh Laura
I am so sorry to hear that, not the news that you wanted to hear, no wonder that you are in shock, its only natural.
I hope that once the scans etc are done, you will have a clearer idea of what your treatment plan will be, people on here say that it does become easier to get your head around then, you can then start dealing with the facts, not the millions of scenarios that our minds throw at us.
I really hope that you have got family and friends around you to support you through this.
Thinking of you.
Annie
