Inoperable Liver Cancer

Hi, this is my first post and I'm looking for some guidance please, I'll try and keep it short.
My dad was diagnosed with inoperable primary liver cancer which takes up at least a 3rd of his liver last week. Because of his other issues (age, COPD & pancreatitis) we were told biopsy, radiotherapy and chemotherapy were not suitable as they would cause other issues or kill him.
Basically the consultant said there is nothing he can do and to enjoy every day as a gift and discharged him. That was it.
We're all in shock and feel dismissed with no way forward on what to do next or where to go or how much time we have.
Any advice would be greatly appreciate.

  • Hello,

I'm sorry to hear about your dad and that you felt your consultant was dismissive. It's difficult to  If you are unhappy with the way you are being looked after, you may want to consider getting a second opinion you can find out more about this here. Unfortunately, we cannot advice you on treatment but you can find more information on getting a second opinion and guidance on living with liver cancer on our website. I wish I could be of more help, but I hope this is useful in some way. We also have a team of cancer nurses available, if you wish to talk it through with someone. You can call them on the freephone 0808 800 4040 and lines are open 9 to 5 Monday to Friday.
