Recently diagnosed with prostate cancer

Hi My name is Sean. Im 63 and have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. My gleason is 3+4 My T stage is T2. I had a PSA of 8.4. As i was only diagnosed 1 week ago still waiting for paper work from hospital. The urologist told me that active surveillance is the best way to go as its in its early stage. I personally feel that i cant go down this route through a fear it could just get out of control. I keep thinking that surgery to get it out is the best route for me. Obviously side effects. Its not easy dealing with something you just cant see. Still in absolute shock. I am married with a very supportive wife and family members. Just wondered what treatments other members are taking. I know i need a bit more time to think properly but just to be told i have cancer is hard to take in.

Thanks

Sean

    Sorry that went twice.

  • Hi Sean, thanks for your reply. How did you get on with your pre assessment? I have an op date of 20th December, had a telephone pre assessment but will have to visit nurses for more tests as I have high blood pressure. How you getting on with your pelvic floor exercises, I've been doing mine 2-3 times a day, was told it will hope with bladder control post op. Glad you went to one of the meetings, sounds like something I would benefit from. I managed to look at my mri results online before formally getting my results, so was expecting what I was told. Yep agree about the good & bad days, I'm also feeling more tired than usual, prob the stress of it all. Finding it hard to stay strong all the time but getting a lot of support from my fiancee & family. Happy to talk if you want to, tried to call you Tuesday evening but got what I think was your voice mail. I'm retired so around most of the time, we generally turn our mobiles to silent after 8pm. Regards. Glyn
