Wife diagnosed stage 4 she’s 52

Hi all,

my wife noticed a big lump and a small lump 9 weeks ago and I got her to the doctor pretty quick. The MRI and biopsy showed cancer in both lump samples and lymph node.

The PET scan showed a small “hot area” in the liver and the doctor said that makes it stage 4.

whats the longest we can hope she will live with this? We see the oncologist next week. Our world is shattered. We have twin girls aged 18

thanks

  • Hi Skyhawk747,

I am so sorry to hear about your wife's diagnosis and can understand your concerns about her prognosis. It is impossible for us to predict how much time she has left. This varies with her age, general medical health and a number of other factors. The people who are best able to give you some idea, are those involved in her care, mainly her Consultant and her Oncologist. They have access to her other medical history and experience of her type of cancer, but even then, their prediction will just be a "guesstimate". As humans, none of us comply to a particular type and many people have lived much longer than advised, whilst others may pass more quickly.

Why not write down any questions you both have and bring your list with you to your consultation? It's all too easy to forget something important in the heat of the moment.

Please keep in touch and let us know how she gets on. We are always here for both of you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
