Salivary gland Tumour being removed tomorrow. Feeling so nervous

I'm having a salivary gland tumour removed tomorrow

I've been told it will affect my speech and swallowing

As anyone been through this?

Did it affect your swallowing and speech?

If so how long for?

I will have a nasalgastric tube for 48 hour's after surgery for fluids and medication

My anxiety is sky high right now

  • Hi Claire and welcome to the Cancer Chat.

I'm so sorry no-one was able to get back to you before you had your surgery, but I hope the removal of the tumour was a success.

Hopefully some of our members who have had a similar operation will be along soon to share their experiences and advice but I hope this information we have about what happens after surgery, including the possible problems that may occur, will be useful.

We also have a section on our website about living with salivary gland cancer but for further information and advice, you can make a post in our cancer nurses section of the forum. It's called ask the nurses, and they will do all they can to answer your questions and address how this surgery will affect your speech and swallowing going forward.

We're thinking of you Claire and wishing you all the best with your recovery.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
