DCIS high grade

This is my second time, being diagnosed with breast cancer. The first time was my right breast, hormone responsive Invasive ductal carcinoma, I had surgery, Chemotherapy and radiotherapy that was 5 years ago. Now I have High grade DCIS in my left breast. I have had surgery and am now waiting for the results, what happens next I don’t know?

  • Hi Davsy, I was diagnosed with high grade DCIS in January but it was non invasive. After my first surgery the margins were not clear so I had a second surgery in February. The margins were not as deep as they would have liked after the second surgery so I had two weeks of radiotherapy. Hopefully you margins will be clear. I should be on anastrazole for the next five years. I was given the tablets around six weeks ago but am anxious about taking them so haven’t started yet. Were you given aromatase inhibitors after your previous DCIS?

  • Hi Jellybean, thanks for your reply, my first diagnosis was invasive ductal carcinoma, and yes I had to take aromatase inhibitors, am still on them now till December next year. Started on Anastrozole, the side effects were so bad, joint pain, hot flushes, so changed to letrozole, they were as bad so now on emexstane the best out of a bad bunch, still have the side effects. But so scared of a reoccurrence that I just live with it. Don’t know the histology of this cancer yet so unsure of the outcome

  • Hi Davsy. Thank you for replying.  It’s useful to know that there are alternatives to Anastrozole. I have arthritis and still very fatigued so not looking forward to the side effects in addition. I will start soon and see how it goes.
Wishing you a good outcome with your results. Hopefully you won’t have to wait too long.
