80yr old mum with Bladder Cancer

Hi everyone.  back in feb, my mum had a procedure to cut away 4 tumours in her bladder,. we had a follow up visit in June to check all had gone and they found another small one. We've been today to have it lasered off and the Dr sat us down to say that something came up in a previous scan that it doesnt look like mum had been told about. She has an enlarged lymph node outside of the bladder.. We have to go back again in 4 months to have another CT scan to look if it has grown, changed, or anything else to see what they do next.

The tumours she had were Grade 3 non ivasive, so basically, as he explained (on a wall), paint level, rather than plaster or brick, as with the one removed today. The Dr is unsure about the lymph node as he cant see where this has come from..

so now im worried, panicking.. he mentioned metastatic, which from what i understand in old english is secondary.. and now its in a lyymph, it could travel double fast to other nodes.. Does anyone have any experience of this and could give me some guidance?

thanks x

  • Hi Jillybob21,

I am sorry to hear that they have found an enlarged lymph node outside of your mum's bladder and I can imagine it is a bit puzzling for you to find out that the doctor is unsure where this has come from. There is information on our website on what metastatic bladder cancer is and it is mentioned there that lymph nodes are one of the places it is most likely to spread to and I would suggest you give our cancer nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 and they will be happy to answer questions you might have on this - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have had experience of this and that they will be able to offer you some guidance based on their personal experiences.

Keeping everything crossed for your mum - I hope that the next CT scan will shed some light on what needs to be done next. It is normal to be worried and to panic a little but hopefully your mum's medical team will figure out soon what is going on and what the best course of action might be.

    Best wishes,
