Should I push my daughter in law to change the hospital?

My daughter in law has just been diagnosed with 3x stage 3 tumours in L breast and 1x stage 2 tumour in R breast. Cancer has spread to L lymph nodes, no cancer detected in R lymph nodes. She has been advised she will need mastectomy L breast, lumpectomy R breast, full clearance of L lymph nodes, and chemotherapy. I am assuming that speed is of the essence and yet five weeks after initial diagnosis and 8 weeks after finding first lump she is still awaiting some test results to determine the treatment plan, surgery and chemo dates.

I feel this would be treated with greater urgency at a hospital in Leeds, but she is not so sure that transferring now would delay even further.

She is 30, my son is 28.

We would appreciate any advise, thank you

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community JuliaMJ, although I'm sorry to hear your daughter in law has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Having to wait for those test results must be very stressful, but fingers crossed it won't be too much longer now and your daughter in law's treatment can finally get underway.

I'm sure some of our members will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon about whether to change hospitals or not, but if you'd like to speak with one of our cancer nurses about this, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They will do all they can to answer your questions and help you figure out what would be best for your daughter in law at this moment in time.

We're here for you JuliaMJ, and wishing your daughter in law all the best with her treatment when it begins.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
