NHS funding for IVF wont accept sperm donor if you are single - endometrial cancer Grade 1

Hello everyone,

My funding approved to freeze eggs and do IVF, and as I am single, I would like to get a sperm donation and freeze embryos. The fertility clinic in London is now telling me I wil not be able to freeze embryos as I am single. Seems a bit odd to me. Different people at the clinic has told me different things.

Has anyone been through the same?

Thank you so much!

  • Hello MMateus

I'm sorry to hear that you're about to undergo treatment for endometrial cancer and that currently, you've had some conflicting information about being able to freeze embryos ahead of treatment starting. It sounds like a very frustrating situation to be in given that you've had conflicting information.

I did find some information on the Fertility Network website which seems to indicate that there is no blanket policy for how recommendations are implemented.

DO you have a clinical nurse specialist that you can contact for some advice and support? I'm sure that you won't be the only patient that the hospital team has had who has been in this situation and they may be able to give you some further clarification or help in where you can find answers to your query.

Alternatively, if you'd like to talk with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I'm sorry that I can be of more help at this time. I hope that you're able to get some answers soon and that your treatment goes smoothly.

    Best wishes,
