Rare Cancer diagnosis

I have just been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer after my appendix burst.  I was looking to see if anyone else has been through this already, and how they coped and if so what to expect.

I am under going Peritoneal Malignancy surgery on the 10th July, (day before my birthday!!). It's about a 5 hour surgery, will be in ICU for about 3 days after... Got told I was just unlucky.  Not really what I wanted to hear.

I am really scared about the whole process of waking up with a NG Feed tube, a Stoma and a Catheter.  They call it a adenocarcinoma cancer. Never heard of it,.  I have made a decision, that if and when I get through this. I would like to make some awareness of this cancer.

So if there is anyone out there who has had this cancer and been through this. Please can you give me some advice.

Regards

  • Hello Hulse

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been told you have adenocarcinoma cancer. It's understandable that this news came as a shock after your appendix had ruptured.

We've had quite a few people post to share their experiences with different types of appendix cancer on the forum. You can read through some of those posts by using the forum search function at the top of the page to look for the word "appendix". Hopefully, you will be able to chat with others who have been through similar surgery.

You might also find it helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses before your surgery. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information, and support they can. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that things go smoothly for you next month and that your recovery goes well. Do keep in touch Hulse and let us know how you get on. We're here to listen and offer any support we can.

    Best wishes,
