Attendance allowance

My very elderly mother ( 92yrs) was diagnosed with primary bowel cancer and secondaries in the lung, this was in January of this year, she will not be having any treatment for this and is only needing some medicine to help with regulating her bowel movements.  I am wondering whether she could apply for Attendance allowance under the special rules as she has advanced cancer , although has not been given a prognosis of a year or less, no mention of this was discussed at her consultations , but in view of that fact her cancer is advanced would this make her fit the criteria.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has applied under this category and any advice they could give me.

I'm sorry to hear about your mother's diagnosis. It's understandable you want to make sure she has all the support she needs at this time.

I'd suggest giving the Macmillan financial advice team a call tomorrow. They have a team of experts who will be able to advise and help you with information about claiming Attendance Allowance for your Mum.

    Best wishes,
