Breast clinic appointment absolutely petrified

Long story short, had a HRT check up with practitioner nurse and mentioned that I was paranoid about breast cancer due to using HRT and I feel that 1 armpit tissue is greater then the other, she examined me and said she can feel no lumps or anything but can see what I mean about the difference in armpit tissue, she told me not to worry and sending me to clinic for peace of mind, I was absolutely fine up until I read her notes on the nhs app and it says lump.

I have my appointment next week and absolutely scared now it says lump, why say she couldn’t feel 1 but on paper work she can.

  • Hello Louise76

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some concerns about your breast health. You did exactly the right thing in getting it checked and it's good to hear that you now have an appointment at the breast clinic next week. Hopefully, the team will be able to give you some reassurance in just a few more days.

It sounds like the referral form has been filled in to ensure you are seen as quickly as possible but I really wouldn't try to read too much into that. The nurse said that she couldn't feel any that immediately concerned her and that this referral was being made for peace of mind.

We know that for many people this period of waiting for appointments can be difficult and it's natural to feel anxious. If it would help to talk with one of our nurses before your appointment next week you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

In the meantime, try to keep busy and remain positive. It may help to keep in mind that the large majority of people seen in clinic by a breast specialist are not diagnosed with cancer.

Do keep in touch Louise and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
