Painful or not?

Hi

Having my first chemo on Wednesday. Been experiencing a dull ache and tingling pain in the tumour area. What has confused me is that most posts I have read say that breast cancer is painless.

When I first went to the doctors I was convinced I did not have cancer as my breast was painful. I thought it was a cyst.

I keep thinking the pain I am having now is the tumour growing and will the chemo ease my pain. Has anyone else experienced this?

Best wishes

  • Hi Sandradee, just wondered how it went with your first chemo on Wednesday. Hope you are feeling OK. Xx

  • Hello feeling dreadful as in a hospital bed as I type. Thursday the chemotherapy helpline told my partner to contact A& E as I was experiencing terrible headaches and vomiting. I was blue lighted and put on drips and intravenous sickness as could not keep anything down. Ward doctor wants me to stay in for another night and hopefully can go home tomorrow. Had injection in tummy to fight off infections but will cause aching bones.

Round one of six over unless Oncologist changes plan.

Thanks for checking on me. How are you?

  • So sorry to hear you have had such a rough time with your first chemo. Hope you are starting to feel better and are home soon. I also have injections in my stomach on days 4-10 after each chemo cycle, to boost white blood cells. I have had a bit of aching in my knees, but nothing too bad. Had my chemo on Tuesday and felt a bit of a dip in energy levels yesterday, but feeling pretty good today. Hopefully you'll be better on next cycle, as your body adjusts to the treatment. Take care and keep in touch to let me know how you're doing. Xx

  • Hi

Today is the first day I feel better. I hope I don’t end up in A&E after my 2nd cycle. The area where my tumour is feels achy and hard. Wishful thinking it is shrinking already! Bones not too bad but expect that to get worse over the months of injections.

Good to hear you are feeling better. I hope my body adjusts to the next five cycles. Next one 19th June. Seeing Oncologist on Wednesday for checkup on 1st chemo and discuss how I felt/feel. He will obviously have notes on my hospital stay.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Sandradee, so pleased to hear that you're feeling better.I also had pain around the tumour area, after the first cycle of chemo. I did ask about this as it did worry me a bit. I was told it could be something called tumour flare, which can happen. I had a scan after first three cycles and the tumours had started shrinking. Hopefully things will go better for you on your next cycle. I'm due my next one on the 18th of June, the day before you. I have to go for an echocardiogram on Wednesday to check my heart. This is because I have now started the phesgo injections, due to being HER2 positive. They apparently have to monitor the heart if on these. I found that drinking more water made me feel much better between each cycle. Only downside is I need to use the loo more often, but a small price to pay. I hope you stay well and wish you luck that things go more smoothly next time. Xx

  • Please keep in touch and let me know how the 18th goes. What number chemo is it?

  • Next chemo is number 6, then last one on the 9th of July, which happens to be my wedding anniversary! Will definitely keep in touch, would like to know how you get on. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Xx

  • Number six! Well done you. Keep in contact. X

  • Thank you, will definitely keep in touch. Xx

  • Met with consultant yesterday and he acknowledged my sickness problems. I now along with the other anti sickness tablets need to take 125mg Aprepitant capsule an hour before chemo (this is tricky as last time I was kept waiting for over an hour) and a further 80mg on day two and three to control sickness. Consultant seemed confident that these will help me enormously. I asked if they were that great at controlling sickness why the tablets were not given out straight away! The reply was they are an expensive drug.

Noticed today that I have hair shedding despite cold capping at first chemo session. Not sure if I will continue as had an awful headache after treatment. Consultant said the headache would have been chemo related and not the cap.

Still feeling a dull ache and prickling sensation in tumour area.

    Best wishes
