Painful or not?

Hi

Having my first chemo on Wednesday. Been experiencing a dull ache and tingling pain in the tumour area. What has confused me is that most posts I have read say that breast cancer is painless.

When I first went to the doctors I was convinced I did not have cancer as my breast was painful. I thought it was a cyst.

I keep thinking the pain I am having now is the tumour growing and will the chemo ease my pain. Has anyone else experienced this?

Best wishes

  • Hi Sandradee,

I wanted to send a reply to your post firstly to give it a little boost, so a few more people should see it, and hopefully you'll get some more replies soon - particularly from any others with similar experience to share.

And also to wish you well for tomorrow. This will of course also be an opportunity to discuss your question and any concerns you have about this.

  • Hi Sandradee, I did have some breast pain around my tumour site before I started chemo. It was some aching and also shooting pains. Breast care nurse told me it was caused from having the biopsies, even though they had been done a couple of weeks earlier. I hadn't had any soreness for a while and these pains just started, which seemed strange  It did settle down on it's own. I then experienced pain around tumour a little time after my first chemo cycle. I was told this was something called tumour flare, which can happen, this also settled on its own. Hope all goes well with your chemo on Wednesday. Xx

  • Thank you for sharing your experience. I strangely can’t wait to get started on my chemo tomorrow. Did the nurses provide you with painkillers?

  • No, just said to take paracetamol, which did help. Let me know how your chemo goes tomorrow. I had my 5th cycle today, just two more to go, yay!!

  • I will make sure I stock up. I will let you know how I get on. That is great to hear only two more to go. What was your diagnosis and what treatment are you on?

  • I have invasive ductal carcinoma grade 3, stage 2. I was put on EC-T chemo. Three cycles of EC and 4 cycles of T ( for me this is docetaxel). Next step is a mastectomy, 3 to 4 weeks after chemo is finished, as far as I know.

  • Mine is also grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma. I am ER and PR negative but HER2 positive. My treatment is chemotherapy with EC-TPH for up to 6 cycles followed by Phesgo to complete 21 cycles. Depending on outcome I will either have a lumpectomy or mastectomy followed by andjuvant RDT and Ibandronic acid. Unsure about those last two.

     I am 62.

  • I am ER and PR positive as well as HER2 positive. I have had two phesgo injections so far, which I think I'm on for about a year. Also found out last week I will be starting bone infusions in August, which will be zoledronic acid. I apparently need to go to the dentist, before treatment starts. These infusions will be every six months for three years. After surgery I will also be having  radiotherapy, so still a long journey ahead of me. Hope all goes well today  xx

  • I feel I am just about to start my journey into hell.Leaving for hospital now. and I am very scared.

  • Don't be scared, you'll be fine and will get lots of reassurance. Stay positive and try to relax. Will be thinking of you  let me know how it goes. Xx
