Head Spinning and decision to make

Hi all. I am an ex nurse so understand a lot of terms in the nhs. Had my mammogram they found a lump...ultrasound done...biopsy done...lymph nodes biopsy....all back positive...referred to my hospital of choice.

Went yesterday to see Breast surgeon to find out Her2 negative and would be having surgery 24th May. He proceeded to do artwork on my breast which i showed my partner so he was aware as well. We agreed we were going through this together. Surgeon said i would need radio after surgery and possibly chemo. Further mammogram...ultrasound....and biopsy required...weird i thought they had all the results from before. I broke down in the biospy room as i was traumatised from my previous biopsy as the core sample was stuck and talk about pulling it out my partner had to hold my feet down on the bed.

Back into see the surgeon. He had picked up from 1st mammogram possible 2nd lump hence all above. Yes it was and sample sent off. Yes to wait again. Is surgery cancelled? Maybe. He then says its my decision if we do lumpectomy or mastectomy and he will call me Tuesday afternoon for an answer and hopefully he will have some of the results back from the biopsy.

My head is spinning i just want to curl up in a corner somewhere.

  • Hello Nuttynurse,

I'm sorry to hear you're going through this. It sounds incredibly overwhelming, especially given your medical background and the trauma from your previous biopsy.

Your experience with the biopsy and the uncertainty about the surgery date must be really hard to cope with so I'm glad to hear that your partner is involved and supportive—going through this together can make a big difference.

Hopefully, other forum members who have had a similar experience will come in shortly to talk with you, as chatting with those who can relate does seem to help.

In the meantime, it might be a good idea to try to focus on one step at a time and lean on your support system as much as possible. Remember, it's okay to feel how you're feeling and to take the time you need to process everything. If you have any questions or need clarity, don't hesitate to reach out to your medical team—they are there to help you through this.

Sending you strength and positive thoughts.

    With best wishes,
