Lung nodule cancer - does anyone have any advice on lower lobe removal or radiation therapy?

Hi

I have just been diagnosed with lung cancer lower lobe had biopsy last week

I’m upset that this was done by telephone rather than face to face

the consultant said it would be best to do a lower lobe removal

I also have a middle nodule that they want to biopsy as well so that will be done in a few weeks

any advice on lower lobe removal or radiation therapy

im really scared to have the surgery

I work full time and have no idea what to do as I do not get sick pay so it would only be ssp

any advice or help on what I can do or speak to

it’s early days so waiting on treatment plans ect

thanks

  • Hello Nannydd

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. It's understandably a difficult time for you and natural that you will have concerns and questions.

We have some information about treatment for lung cancer on our website that you may find helpful. If you've been given the details for a clinical nurse specialist then I'd also encourage you to get in touch with them to talk through some of your questions and concerns. Hopefully, they will be able to give you some reassurance about the next steps in diagnosis and treatment.

In terms of finances. then Macmillan has a benefits and finances team who will be able to give you some advice and support in this area. There is also a benefits calculator available on their website that you may find useful.

Hopefully some of our forum members will be along soon to share their advice and support but if you think it would help to talk with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

keep in touch Nannydd and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello - I was diagnosed with stage 2 lung cancer (adenocarcinoma) and had my right lower lobe removed (lobectomy) three weeks ago.

I was fortunate to have the operation n an excellent London hospital which specialises in this type of surgery.

I would seriously recommend that you consider having surgery if it's offered as this gives you the best chance of a cure.

If you want to message me privately, please do. I'm very happy to answer any questions you may have.

I'm surprised at how well I've recovered - I had the operation on a Wednesday and took a minicab home on the Saturday. I was pretty fit prior to the operation, which I think has assisted my recovery.

Wishing you all the best x
