Been told I have Breast Cancer. Awaiting biopsy results. What does this mean stage wise?

I went to the breast clinic on the 24th April, I have been told its BC, I am wondering what happend next, the breast nurse told me the tumor is 2.5cm, surgery, possible radiotherapy and they mat take 3 lymph nodes away.  I am freaking out what does it mean stage wise

  • I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It's understandable to feel overwhelmed and anxious at this time. Based on what you've shared, it sounds like the next steps may involve further tests and discussions with your medical team to determine the stage of your breast cancer.

Typically, the stage of breast cancer is determined based on factors such as the size of the tumor, whether it has spread to nearby lymph nodes, and if it has metastasized to other parts of the body.

Since your tumor is 2.5cm and there's a mention of potentially removing lymph nodes, your medical team will likely conduct additional tests, such as imaging scans and possibly a biopsy of the lymph nodes, to assess the extent of the cancer and its stage.

  • Hi Elena

Thankyou, its all been a shock to be honest I want expecting it.  My mammogram picked up the changes as the doctor couldn't even feel the lump.  I am trying to be positive,  the nurse said its treatable and the mammogram has picked it up early, so holding on to that hope before I get my results

    Hi Lara,

Thank-you, what stage were you if you don't dont mind me asking?

  • Hi. Sorry to hear this. I had my biopsy results on 19th after a private biopsy. I was told its Grade 1 Oestrogen positive and 4x2cm.   I've today had a MRI scan on the NHS and I'm waiting for a mammogram so they can stage it and confirm a treatment plan.  Does that help?

  • RedRuth

Sorry to hear this, hopefully it's early stage 1 for you    what is the MRI scan for? Maybe that's what I will get at my appointment at the hospital, confirmation and grade from biopsy. What does 4x2cm mean?

    Sending love ️

  • The MRI scan is just to give them more information and better imaging. The contrast dye shows up all the blood vessels.  The MRI and the mammogram help them stage the cancer and decide on a treatment plan.  My tumour is 4cm x 2cm.

  • Hi RedRuth,

Did you feel your lump? I couldn't feel mine, neither could the Doctor!

I just feel so anxious waiting x
