Kidney Tumour stage T3B

I have a recent diagnosis of 10cms kidney tumour which has grown into the vena cava vein. No metastasis. I have been advised that I can have immunotherapy to try and shrink the tumour which would then make the operation easier and safer. However if the immunotherapy doesn't work I cannot then go on and have the op. The 2nd option is to take away my kidney with a vascular team to remove the growth in the vein. Followed up with immunotherapy. My other kidney is not working well so I would have to have dialysis afterwards too. My consultant has warned I may nor make it through the op lots of complications stroke, pneumonia etc etc I am 74. I immediately opted for the op to hopefully get rid of the cancer now I'm having doubts. Has anyone else had this op that can comment and tell me their outcome thanks.

  • Welcome to the forum Elizabeth although I'm sorry to hear about the tumour that has been found and the doubts you're now having about which course of treatment you've opted for.

I think it's only natural to have some niggling doubts after making a big decision like this but hopefully hearing about some of our member's experiences will address some of your concerns and give you the reassurance you're looking for.

Whilst you wait to hear back from the community you're very welcome to talk things through with our team of cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're really easy to talk to and will do all they can to help, and answer any other questions you may have at this time.

We're thinking of you Elizabeth and wishing you all the best with your op when the time comes.

    Kind regards,
