Cervical cancer

I have been diagnosed with grade 1b stage 2 cervical cancer just over 3 weeks ago. I an just waiting to see if i can have a radical hysterectomy or if not radiotherapy and chemo. I have had the best care with the 2 week rule followed. I had an ultrasound exam, a hystoscopy followed by a Lettz procedure.  I have just had a pet scan and mri scan also. I found it quite overwhelming,  but i am staying positive as they are saying treatable.  Should find out over the next couple of weeks which treatment i will have. Find the waiting hard but i have good support from my family and friends.  Does anyone have experience  with the hysterectomy procedure as nervous if this is the option they choose, they have said a radical hysterectomy.  Thanks

  • Hi, I see you’re having surgery on 6th June. I had a radical hysterectomy just over 2 weeks ago for exactly the same grade/ level of cervical cancer. The surgery though major is do-able, first few days you have catheters, drains, line in your hand and feel pretty bad. I had extra morphine injected in my arm for pain. Then quite quickly you start to feel better, stronger, walking around etc. I’m now really feeling quite good, scar is healing well, just a weird and a bit disconcerting numbness around the scar and downwards to the top of my legs which will apparently go but no time frame on that. I was thrown into surgical menopause even though I’m in my early 50’s and that’s been quite challenging - horrible night sweats that almost feel like a fever and emotional up and downs and wanting to cry but then I guess there’s also an element of shock and upset at the whole process of diagnosis and rapid surgery. Basically, good luck, it’s a relief to know that the cancer and it’s surrounds are out and you move on from there..

  • Hi, could I please ask how long you waited from diagnosis to surgery please ?

    X

  • Thanks so much for that makes me feel a little better knowing what's to come and how I will be feeling.  Good luck with your recovery. X

I was told I had cancer 8th April. I was not in the meeting last week after them discovering the cancer was bigger, it was postponed to this week (tomorrow) I still have no stage and grade and it been 7 weeks now. I'm really stressed and just hope I have some information tomorrow.

  • My stage is 1b2 but without clear margins so have to have chemo radio for 5 weeks.

    Absolutely devasted

  • Hi Sosig, I had a hysterectomy just over 2 months ago after having a Lettz procedure and a cone biopsy. Mine was a total hysterectomy though. I felt pretty bad the first few days but then after you start to feel better with each day. I agree, it was quite overwhelming at times with a lot going on over the span of 2 months (from diagnosis to surgery), the hospital visits, the scans, the waiting. I'm feeling good now and glad I'm on the other side of it. Now regular check ups for the next 5 years

  • I'm so sorry to hear this x

  • Hi sorry have been quiet for a while getting over my surgery. All went well with the operation, but got a kidney infection so had to stay in hospital for 9 days. This set me back about a week but I'm getting there now. Got a call last week to say they got all the cancer and no further treatment necessary, I am so lucky.  How is everyone else doing. Xxxx
