Lap staging for oesophageal cancer - does anyone have any positive stories?

My partner has recently been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer. He is younger than 40 and has had most of the tests but he is just waiting for the lap staging which is this week. Im so nervous about this, the results and the next steps. 
Any one got any positives about this? Thanks x
