Diagnosed on Friday with type B Lymphoma

Hello everyone,

followng a CT scan at my local hospital , I was initially thought to have a Leiomysarcoma type tumuour which has invaded much of my lower abdomen and was dangerously close to both my inferior vena carva and aorta major blood vessels. I was told this would require major surgery. however, following my referral and a subsequent biopsy it has now been confirmed that the large tumour mass is a type B Lymphoma.

I don't know anything about this cancer type so I would be grateful if anyone has any information about what sort of treatment I should expect.and what sort of outcome i can hope for ....

Thanks all

  • Hello Steve_63

I'm sorry to hear that you were given the news last week that you have a type of B-cell lymphoma. It's understandable that you have questions and possible concerns about what this may mean for you.

Have you been given details for a clinical nurse specialist that you can contact for advice and support? If so then I'd really encourage you to get in touch with them this week to talk through your diagnosis and get some further information as there are a few types of B-cell lymphoma and we wouldn't want to give you the wrong information.

Once you have more clarity on the type of lymphoma you have we can give you some links to information that you may find useful as well as try to connect with you with other community members who have the same diagnosis. Our team of nurses will also be happy to offer any advice and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

In the meantime Steve, try not to think too far ahead nor to search the internet for information as this often leaves people feeling more worried.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you're doing.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn

  • Thanks Jen. Just yesterday I have been told that my case will be discussed at the MTD later this week, and hopefully I will start some treatment. soon.

  • Hello Steve

Six weeks ago I went to my doctor with a lump on my neck, that had been there for 8 weeks. Within two weeks I had, had bloods done, CT, Ultrasound and biopsy. Two weeks later the results came back inconclusive so went off to specialist team for testing which took another two weeks. Yesterday I was told I have B-cell Lymphoma. Like you I don't know anything about it. I am due to see the haematology team next week to discuss Chemo. Hope all is well with you.
