Colon cancer

3 weeks ago had a 5cm cancer removed from sigmoid colon and now have stoma. I could deal with that fine but then had the phone cal to say that all 15 lymph nodes taken had cancer. I am so sad

  • Hello Chribarr,

comes as a really unwelcome just after you have adjusted your mind to a positive outcome of successful surgery. Now you have to deal with the whole raft of uncertainties that accompany this news. In a perverse sense it is better knowing this is the case than not, because from here on you will be more closely monitored to catch any further outspread earlier allowing for positive intervention.

Its a hard knock to take but for me it saved my life as my unwelcome guest decided to move home from my Bowel to my Liver..Ten years on l have that original bad news to thank for my survival, sometimes positives are not always readily apparent.

Go gently on yourself since stress can get between you and giving your body its best chance of recovery,

    David

  • I had a 5cm tumour i had 22 lymph nodes taken out and two were showing possible signs of cancer i now need chemo which i am waiting for , i wish you all the luck during this very stressful time  fingers crossed

  • Thank you for your answer I have a telephone appointment with the oncologist on Thursday so I will know where my journey will take me.  Take care

  • Thanks for your reply. Good luck on this journey that we wouldn't particularly have chosen to take.

  • Let us know how you get on , its scary i know but i am sure we will get through it

  • My husband has his tumour removed 3 weeks ago but we have been told when they were in there they saw how it has spread ti hus periteneum. I am sick with worry as ive done too much googling! We have not has results of biopsys yet but also sounds like its spread to his lymph nodes. Its such a sas time. Like you dealing with his ileostomy has been fine but the news of the spread is so scarey. Hope you are ok and maybe can chat and share. Hooe you and my husband have some better resulrs and news.

  • Thank you for your reply and I understand how scary this is for your hudband and you, especially.  I am finding all so difficult as I lost my husband 3yrs ago and all this was found through the postal bowel screening kit with no symptoms or signs whatsoever and although I am so lucky to have many supportive friends and a wonderful daughter when I close my doors at night I am left alone with my own thoughts and fears. I speak to the oncologist on Thursday so will have more information then. Good luck and healing thoughts to you and your family

  • So sorry for your loss. So so sorry.

My husbands was found also through the fit test and no symptoms. This is an awful disease. I am hoping with all my heart they can help my husband. Its a scarey time, thank you for your reply xxxx

  • In July 2022 i had a negative FIT test , in December 2023 i had a positive fit test of 168 and a 5 cm tumour in my bowel , no symptoms as to speak of

  • Gosh this colon cancer is a sneaky devil. I had the phone call from the oncologist today so hopefully start soon. The trouble is to add insult to injury I am on warfarin for mechanical heart valve so complicates things..But I'm a tough ol bird I've got this. Good luck with the journey
