Hello, we’ve just had the news that my 75 year old mother has been diagnosed with Bowel Cancer that has spread to the liver and lungs.
She never had any symptoms and it was only picked up whilst having a blood test for something else.
The consultant has explained that they can operate and hopefully remove the tumour in the bowel, however they will not be able to remove the growth in the liver and lungs with chemo being the only option.
My question is, assuming the operation goes to plan and the chemo works as well as it could be, what could her life expectancy be, best and worst case scenario?
The consultant was understandably cautious about promising timelines as they need to do a biopsy but we are trying to be positive and are thinking best case scenario rather than worst case, although we aware that it could develop quickly despite the chemo.
Thank you.
