I have been diagnosed with tonsil cancer

I was diagnosed a few weeks ago and have so far received 6 Radiotherapy and 1 chemotherapy.  The next chemo and radiotherapy tomorrow

I am feeling so nauseous all.the time and as a result my activities have slowed resulting in becoming scared I won't cope. I have been prescribed anti sickness but they are simply not working

I am getting emotional. I have another 5 weeks to go and I feel like giving up already which is not at all like me as I am normally so positive.

I hate this feeling as there are a lot more people worse off than me and I feel I am feeling sorry for myself which I am embarrassed about.

Any tips or words of support would be invaluable right now.

Thank you in advance

  • Hello JCPH,

It's still very early days after being diagnosed with tonsil cancer and you are doing amazingly well getting through 6 radiotherapy sessions and one chemotherapy in just a few weeks. I hope that your latest chemotherapy and radiotherapy went ok. The nausea can be really debilitating and this is something a lot of our members have experienced and will be able to relate to and I hope that you will hear from the experiences of others who have found themselves in a similar place before.

Our website has helpful information on cancer and sickness as well as on sickness and cancer drugs which will guide you through the types of anti sickness medicines available to you and it also has useful tips to help you reduce sickness. If you wanted to talk to our cancer nurses about this, I am sure that they will have really good advice for you and you can get in touch with them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. Do talk to your GP too about how sick you are feeling and I am sure they will be able to help you and give you different anti sickness medication - make sure you tell them that what you are currently taking is not helping.

I know it's really hard knowing you still have 5 weeks to go and that it is not easy to have go through all this but you've already accomplished so much and you are not too far now from the end. You mustn't feel embarrassed or anything - you totally have the right to feel a bit down but you will get through this and I just wanted you to know you are not alone and I will now let our community members come and shower you with messages of love and support during this difficult time. They will have been through this before and will know better than anyone how you are feeling at the moment.

Keep strong JCPH you are doing so well and we're with you every single step of the way.

    Best wishes,
