Lung and Liver cancer diagnosis

My dad was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in Friday and we were told its also spread to his liver.

They plan to try treatment to shrink the masses but we have to wait for the biopsy results first so they can decide on treatment plan. I know the outcome it not good.

I feel I am grieving already and he is still here, is this normal?

  • Hello Lilibet82,

I am so sorry to hear about your dad's recent lung cancer diagnosis and that it has also spread to his liver. Our website has information on metastatic lung cancer which may be useful to you and if you have any questions or there is anything else you would like to talk through with our nurses, feel free to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you won't need to wait long for the biopsy results and that they will be able to decide on a treatment plan once they have been able to interpret these important results and that the treatment will be successful in shrinking the masses.

It's normal to be grieving even though he is still there but you are understandably worried about the fact that the cancer has spread to his liver. I know it's really hard but try if you can to take one day at a time - I know it's easier said than done - and to spend as much quality time with your dad without thinking too much about the outlook as it's really difficult to estimate and he may actually respond very well to the treatment they will offer him.

I hope that you will find out more soon about the treatment plan and the biopsy results and that you will also hear from other members of our community who have had a similar diagnosis or been affected by advanced lung cancer in a similar way.

    Best wishes,
