Melanoma Stage 0

Hi all. I've had biopsy result back today from a mole on back of my calf. It's come back as melenoma in situ - stage 0. I've been referred to plastic surgeons in a hospital around 45 mins as they now need to 'remove scar tissue'.

The time scale is 2-7 weeks to get a letter with initial appointment. My local hospital says they can't do second op due to the site being on the back of my calf, the skin is too tight which is why plastic surgeon referral is necessary. They did the first WLE biopsy but struggled stitching back together due to the tightness.

I'm feeling really anxious regarding time scale, does this mean there's still cancerous cells left and could these spread in this time? Or am I being paranoid and they're just taking excess scar tissue to prevent it recurring. It all seemed a blur in the appointment today and I've now got lots of questions (probably all just silly ones) which I didn't ask.

I'm so grateful that this is stage 0 but just feel really anxious. I'm 28 with a 2 year old boy and feel awful being stressed when people are going through a lot worse! Thanks in advance xx

  • Hi Loro and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear that the mole is melanoma in situ, but it's great to hear it can be removed.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar position will stop by when they can to share their experiences and advice, but if you'd like to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses, you can contact them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very easy to talk to and will do all they can to address your concerns and put your mind at ease whilst you wait.

I'm not sure if you have come across this charity before, but you may be able to get further information and advice from Melanoma UK.

We're thinking of you Loro and sending all our support your way.

    Kind regards,
